Reflections
The material on this page consists of the most important/biggest steps, to me, in our design process.
Problem Statement
The problem statement was a major portion of our project because it set things in motion for us. From the problem statement we were able to get things rolling with the rest of the design process. Another reason the problem statement was so important was because it is the basis of our project. If we did not have a problem then we would not have a problem statement. And if we do not have a problem or problem statement then we do not have a product.
First Semester Presentation
At the end of the first semester Zach and I had to go in front of the entire class and present on where we are at now, and where we are going in second semester, in regards to our project. This was a major milestone because it marked that we were half way done with our project and also made us realize how much work we have left to complete. After we presented for 15 minutes we were able to feel more comfortable while public speaking. This is a major portion in our project because it gives us an idea of what our final presentation will be like.
DESIGN & Construction
Another major milestone that we have encountered throughout the duration of this design process is, the actual design and construction of the prototype. Nothing is more satisfying that seeing all your hard work turn into a functioning and productive prototype. It was a major milestone because we got to get our hands dirty for once this year and build something with our hands. But also to know, that this is one of the final steps before we have to present our final presentation.
Final Presentation
In our final presentation we gave a 15-20 minute speech covering everything this school year. We started with information we found back in August such as: Problem Statement, Research, & Patents. We then talked about our survey, sketches, design, and construction of the prototype. After that we discussed our testing and what we would do in the future if we were to continue with this project. This speech was in front of a panel of judges, family/friends, and other teachers/administrators.
